"New-Method" No. 51

We introduce the email bulletin "New-Method" No. 51 with our works and guest contributions.  This issue features Sekai Kouzuma for the contributor, an author-curator who has explored reconstruction of various apparatuses of "modernity" into contemporary environments through his curation and writing.

It's fun living in the society today
Sekai Kouzuma (Author, Curator)

Kant's reflection goes not only to perception itself but even back to its prerequisites, where he discovered the concept of time and space and also twelve categories of judgement.  Following Kant's methodology, Deleuze went even further to inquire conditions out of which the time-space and these categories are generated.  Then he designates "event" as the singular point to be the only transcendental constitutive, which he thinks generates transcendental principles, as Kant conceived and as possible otherwise.  For him, the encounter with "event" is departing away from a fixed mode of description towards generative alterity or "becoming" as he coins.  Kant questioned the conditions of human perception, whose preceding conditions Deleuze then examined.  That is to say, Deleuze discovered an ontological field existing prior to perception.

Starting from Deleuze's discovery of the ontogenetic field, contemporary thoughts have challenged correlationism between humankind and the world to drag it down from its privilege position.  This attempt has found several solutions from different approaches including, to name a few, eliminativism which acknowledges only mathematical structures as really existing and regards any description of human experience as nothing more than human-scale snapshot with no ontological ground, panpsychism which deals with all the objects equally without giving any privileged position to correlational media of human beings, or "ontological turn in anthropology" which juxtaposes ontologies of Amazon tribes or American Indian with those of western modern society in order to pluralize ontological categories.

Although not possible to be discussed in full details due to space limitation, contemporary thoughts have posed questions to the stable relation established in modern times between "human" and "world." To my pursuit of redefinition and reconstruction of "human," "world" and so forth, this trend keeps me excited intellectually, even driving the body.
