We introduce the email bulletin "New-Method" No. 64 with our works and guest contributions. This issue features painter/art-dealer Yurika Uchida for the contributor, who is also one of the organizers of "Haru no Kado" exhibition series and of the boarding members of gallery TOWED just opened in September, 2018.
She would use grape-flavoured toothpaste and always start licking around her lips after brushing. It was the only moment the talkative girl would stop chatting, and we appreciated it because we could find time to chat ourselves without caring for her. "She loves grape-flavour so much that she must swallow Bubblicious gum after chewing it for a while," said some people in higher positions, making fun of her just for their pastime until 19:30. They ridiculed her for other reasons like her bad habit of kicking around and chatting all the time, and they would be gossiping like "she seems actually able to see things vaguely, and must always pretend to be sleeping, because she stares at us as we speak of her, apparently understanding what we say." They also mocked her unique speaking style, which was too unique for anyone to understand what she means. Yet, the fact that "we can't know what she says" was one of the reasons for us to be able to get along with her.
Her room had the same odour as that of the person I loved, so I used to drop by at her place for no reason. She changed ornaments in the room season by season, which made it more fashionable than any other rooms. Once in the room, yet with nothing to talk about with her, I would speak of weather or family affairs. Sometimes, she would smile back to my words like "you have beautiful teeth" and soon pretend to be sleeping.
The place was as spacious as if being a huge labyrinth, and clocks put on the wall here and there were all ticking irregularly as they were not synchronized by radio control. The implicit rule was that the most powerful person represents the most reliable time. Therefore we took actions along with the greatest influence in each situation, without seeing clocks. A room next to a corridor was used as a storage space, and pill bugs and centipedes gathered there through underground drains, into which I would pour hot water sometimes. (To be continued)

Doubt to the Probability No. 1

Turn a roulette with 10 numbers from 0 to 9 one hundred times and count how many times 9 appears. The probability of having 9 is 10%, which most likely appears 10 times in total.
Preparing against disaster
http://masarukaido.com/newmethod/b064_e.html
Natural disasters such as earthquake, typhoon, heavy rain and snow occur every year in Japan I live. Fortunately I have never encountered disasters that force evacuation, but as long as I live in Japan, it would be better to prepare against the risk. So, I decided to prepare against disasters by listing the items to be put in an evacuation bag and sticking it on the wall of a toilet at my home.
